The Lift-Your-Spirits Quote Book
compiled by Allen Klein
Gramercy Books, c2001
ISBN 0517163098
$7.99 at Amazon.com (6/25/01)

More than 650 uplifting quotations.

Mr. Klein's newest collection of quotations is my favorite so far. Divided into the eight broad categories of Applause (praise), Arts, Beauty, Creativity, Family, Friendship, Heart, and Lighten Up, these are short, inspirational quotations that really can lift your spirits. I love opening the book at random and dipping into a few quotes.

A few of my favorites are, "love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here" (Marianne Williamson); "The place to improve the world is first in one's own heart and head and hands" (Robert Persig); and "Faith is the strength by which a shattered world shall emerge into the light" (Helen Keller).

Like Mr. Klein's other books, there are no attributions.

Bottom line: I think this is the most thoughtful of his books. Wonderfully uplifting.

Geared toward: Anyone who needs a lift or some quick inspiration.

Quotations to Cheer You Up When the World is Getting You Down
compiled by Allen Klein
Wings Books, c1991
ISBN 0517100142
$9.95

More than 750 upbeat, humorous quotations.

Quotations on laughter, play, jokes, wit, frivolity, amusement and other topics will make you smile, giggle, or even laugh out loud--and if the quotes don't, the whimsical illustrations by Monica Sheehen will. But the quotes aren't just funny, they are intended to lift your spirits. Many make you think even while you are smiling.

Like Mr. Klein's other books, there are no attributions, but that won't stop you enjoying this witty, uplifting collection.

Bottom line: Lots of light-hearted, upbeat quotes to cheer up a dull day, or make a good one even better.

Geared toward: Anyone who needs cheering up, or just feels like reading humorous quotations

Up Words for Down Days
compiled by Allen Klein
Gramercy Books, c1998
ISBN 0517202700
$9.95

Over 700 wise and witty quotations on topics such as Age and Aging, Kids, Money Matters, and Worryworts

Like the book above, this is terrific to grab when you're feeling down. I chuckled over such quotes as "It goes without saying that you should never have more children than you have car windows" (Erma Bombeck) and "You know you are getting old when the candles cost more than the cake" (Bob Hope).

Open this anywhere to get a lift, or choose a topic to peruse--I guarantee you will feel better after just a few quotes.

Again, for serious quotation people, there are no attributions

Bottom line: Great, uplifting book.

Geared toward: Anyone who is feeling down and needs inspiration, or the person who wants a chuckle.

The Change-Your-Life Quote Book
compiled by Allen Klein
Gramercy Books, 2000
ISBN 0517163101
$9.95

600 inspirational quotations grouped into alphabetical subjects phrases such as Enjoy Today, Forget Failure, Learn to Forgive, Overcome Obstacles, and Win Some, Lose Some. This is a more serious book than the two above, with less frivolity, and more inspiration.

There are lots of great quotes here. You can read the book straight through, but I recommend choosing a category and thinking about the quotations in it, so that you read the book a bit at a time, savoring the wisdom and encouragement. This is my favorite of the three books.

Again, for serious quotation people, there are no attributions

Bottom line: Lots of wise and wonderful quotations served up in nice size portions. Inspirational, uplifting, and motivational.

Geared toward: Those needing encouragement, speech writers, people looking to improve themselves, and anyone wanting some inspiration,
